Biography

Sharon Hargus is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington. She earned her PhD in 1985 from the University of California at Los Angeles. Her research primarily focuses on the documentation of four Native American languages: Sahaptin (specifically the Yakima dialect) spoken in Washington state, Deg Xinag spoken in Alaska, Kwadacha Sekani (Tsek'ene), and Witsuwit'en which is spoken in British Columbia. In addition to her research, Hargus teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on phonetics, phonology, morphology, field methods, and the introduction to language documentation. She is also actively involved as co-Graduate Program Coordinator, collaborating with Professor Ogihara to support the program's development and student engagement.
