Biography

Sharon Long received her undergraduate degree from California Institute of Technology and completed her PhD studies at Yale University, focusing on plant development. She began her postdoctoral studies under Fred Ausubel, initiating her research on rhizobia-legume symbioses. Since joining the Stanford faculty in 1982, she has held numerous academic appointments including Professor of Biology and current courtesy appointments in Biochemistry. Long has served as Dean of the Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences from 2001 to 2007. Long's ongoing collaborations involve significant projects with the National Institutes of Health, focusing on the regulation of symbiosis genes in Sinorhizobium meliloti, contributing to the understanding of plant-bacterial interactions.
