Dr. Sharron Docherty

Biography

Sharron Lee Docherty is an Associate Professor at Duke University, serving in both the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Nursing. She holds the position of Vice Dean for Research and is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute, as well as the Duke Initiative for Science & Society. Dr. Docherty's research focuses on improving outcomes for children, adolescents, young adults, and families undergoing treatment for life-limiting chronic conditions. She studies ways to enhance care models, symptom management, and decision-making processes at the end of life. Her methodological expertise includes qualitative research, mixed-methods approaches, trajectory science, and visualization methodologies designed for complex data exploration and intervention development. Dr. Docherty has been awarded numerous grants aimed at addressing health care coordination, racial disparities, and innovative nursing-led models of care. She is actively involved in various professional activities, including leading a Bass Connections team dedicated to evaluating advanced illness goals.
