Biography

Shaul Tor is a Reader in Ancient Philosophy at King's College London. He received his BA in Classics in 2006, his MPhil in 2007, and his PhD in 2011 from St John's College, Cambridge. His MPhil work concentrated on ancient Pyrrhonian scepticism, and his doctoral dissertation focused on early Greek philosophical approaches to theology and epistemology in historical religious contexts. He served as a Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge from 2010 to 2012 before joining the Departments of Philosophy and Classics at King’s College in 2012. In 2018, he received the Philip Leverhulme Prize for his research in ancient philosophy and culture. Tor is actively involved in supervising PhD students in various areas, including ancient philosophy, early Greek thought, and ancient Greek theology. He teaches a range of modules on ancient Greek and Roman philosophy, introducing students to key texts and theories, including the works of Plato and Hellenistic philosophers. Tor has contributed to various academic publications and has presented talks on ancient philosophy to schools and prospective university applicants.
