Biography

Joining University College London, Shaun Scholes is a social statistician with a distinguished career at the National Centre for Social Research’s Survey Methods Unit. He began his academic journey with a first-class undergraduate degree in Social Policy from the University of Manchester, followed by a distinction in MSc Social Statistics from the University of Southampton. Since joining UCL in 2009 as an Honorary Research Fellow, Shaun has led significant statistical initiatives, particularly related to the IMPACT-SEC CHD policy model. In 2012, he became a Senior Research Associate within the Health Social Surveys Research Group. In 2023, he was appointed as a Senior Research Fellow with the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA), where he plays a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of complex datasets and enhancing data-linkage methodologies. His expertise spans data management, regression techniques, and comprehensive analysis of health surveys using longitudinal data. Beyond research, Shaun trains students in statistical analysis at UCL and externally. He also supervises PhD candidates and teaches statistical courses at the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care, contributing significantly to the field of social statistics and public health research.
