Biography

Shawna Thomas is an Instructional Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. She focuses on teaching and research in the areas of algorithms, robotic motion planning, and computational geometry. Thomas has significantly contributed to both undergraduate education and research, providing support and guidance to students as an Undergraduate Advisor. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University in 2010, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the same institution in 2001. Over the years, she has received several awards for her teaching excellence and academic contributions, including the Provost Academic Professional Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award for the year 2023-2024. Thomas has also been recognized with the IBM Ph.D. Fellowship and the Graduate Research Excellence Award from the Department of Computer Science. Her research interests include algorithms, robotic motion planning, applications of motion planning, computational biology, and computational geometry, with a goal of advancing these fields through innovative teaching and research methodologies.
