Biography

Shayan Mehraeen is an Assistant Professor at Linköping University, specializing in the investigation and development of wearable textile actuators and exoskeletons based on electroactive polymers for assistive haptic applications. With the global population aging, the demand for assistive orthotic devices is rapidly increasing. His research emphasizes the need for such devices which can be worn like garments and actively assist the user by moving specific body parts. This includes the development of wearable exoskeletons made from smart textile yarns that can individually move and apply force through stimulation by electrical potential. The actuation phenomena are well understood, particularly in a group of materials known as electroactive polymers. His work focuses on the preparation of these polymers and their integration into innovative textile designs to create wearable actuators that are flexible, lightweight, and silent when compared to commercially available alternatives.
