Shayan Mookherjea joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2003 as an Assistant Professor and was appointed Associate Professor with tenure in 2008. He specializes in photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, and nanotechnology. Mookherjea leads the Micro/Nano-Photonics group, focusing on chip-scale linear and nonlinear quantum photonic devices. His research includes the development of coupled microring devices for efficient four-wave mixing and the fabrication of devices for generating infrared light and performing nonlinear wavelength conversion. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors from the California Institute of Technology in 1999, an S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Physics also from Caltech in 2003, where he received the Charles Wilts Prize for his thesis research. Mookherjea is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and has received the NSF CAREER and URSI Young Scientist awards.
