Biography

Sheena Bernett is a transdisciplinary performing arts researcher, practitioner, educator, and coach. Her work explores and develops methods to foreground multiplicity and more-than-human modes of co-creation. She served as an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Acadia University from 2023 to 2025. She completed her research-creation PhD in an Individualized Program in Fine Arts at Concordia University. Her dissertation, titled 'Composing Event—Performance Practices Move Neurodiverse Perception/Sensation,' earned her the 2023 Governor General’s Gold Medal Award. Bernett holds a Master of Arts in Musical Theatre Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition from Concordia University. She also has additional training from the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York and the National Ballet School of Canada. As a multidisciplinary creator and performer, she explores performance and transdisciplinary composition through trans-sensory inquiry, integrating voice/singing, acting, movement/dance, composition, devised theatre, and collective-creation. Her original work has premiered internationally at prestigious events including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and TEDxGlasgow.
