Biography

Sheila Kennedy is a Professor of Practice in Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a founding principal of Kennedy & Violich Architecture (KVA MATx). She earned her Bachelor's Degree in history, philosophy, and literature from Wesleyan University, followed by a Master's in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she graduated with Distinction. In 1990, she established KVA MATx, an interdisciplinary design practice that explores the intersection of architecture, digital technology, and public needs. She has pioneered materials research and creative production in the fields of design and architecture, collaborating with major corporations and public agencies, including Dupont and the U.S. Department of Energy. Kennedy's work has received multiple awards, including the 2009 Congressional Award and the 2009 Energy Globe Award. Her research in architecture has been supported by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and published in several notable works. She has exhibited at prominent venues such as the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
