Biography

Sheila McIlraith is a Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Computer Science and holds the Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Vector Institute. She is the Associate Director Research Lead at the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society and an Affiliate Member of the U of T Robotics Institute. Prior to joining the University of Toronto, McIlraith spent six years as a Research Scientist at Stanford University and one year at Xerox PARC. Her work focuses on AI and sequential decision-making, particularly from the perspective of human-compatible AI. McIlraith has received multiple accolades, including fellowship in the ACM and AAAI, and has held significant positions in various AI conferences and journals. She has also been recognized with awards for her influential papers and contributions to AI research. Currently, she is a standing committee chair at the Stanford Hundred Year Study on Artificial Intelligence and a member of the Canadian AI Safety Institute Research Council.
