Dr. Sheilagh Hodgins

Biography

Sheilagh Hodgins is a recognized expert in the field of psychiatry, currently serving as an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal. She has over 25 years of academic experience, having begun her career at McGill University where she completed her MSc and PhD in Clinical Psychology. Over the years, she has focused her research on the interactions of biological, psychological, and social factors across the lifespan that influence the development of mental disorders, as well as antisocial and criminal behavior. Her longitudinal studies have tracked various cohorts to understand the emergence and prevention of antisocial behavior, particularly in adolescents and individuals with histories of mental illness. Hodgins has published extensively and contributed to important findings on the epidemiology of mental disorders in relation to crime, emphasizing the need for effective treatment and preventive strategies. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has received several awards, including the Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society in the United Kingdom. Her collaborative research projects have spanned various aspects of mental health, focusing on psychopathology, delinquency, and the social factors affecting mental illnesses.
