Dr. Shelley Ross

Biography

Shelley Ross is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta. She has a PhD in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Victoria, obtained in 2008. Her research focuses on health professions education, specifically in the areas of competency-based assessment and perspective assessment of learning. Dr. Ross has been involved in international consultations and has collaborated with multiple medical associations, including the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She has held leadership roles in various educational initiatives and has published extensively on medical education topics. Additionally, Dr. Ross served as the Past President of the Canadian Association for Medical Education and has contributed significantly to the development and evaluation of the Competency-Based Achievement System (CBAS). This tool is recognized in North America and the United Kingdom and is used for practice-readiness assessments of foreign-trained physicians. Her work has made a substantial impact on competency assessment frameworks across medical education disciplines in Canada.
