Dr. Sheng Hung Lee

Biography

Sheng-Hung Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Urban Technology program at the University of Michigan. With a background in design, engineering, and systems thinking, his work addresses complex societal challenges. His research focuses on urban systems, service innovation, and Design Longevity (D4L). Lee's doctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology proposed a hybrid framework that integrates constructivist grounded theory with causal loop diagrams and design ethnography to explore behavioral systemic dynamics in longevity planning. He has actively engaged with the global design community, serving as a Board Director for the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) since 2020 and joining the World Design Organization's Education Committee in 2023. His expertise has been recognized with numerous honors, including IDEA Gold, and his work exhibited internationally, including venues such as Dubai Design Week and the Cooper Hewitt Museum. Lee also has experience teaching in various countries and has contributed significantly to curriculum design in service system education at MIT.
