Biography

Matthew Lim is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Clinical Programme at the Department of Psychology, National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds a D.Clin.Psy from University College London (UCL), a D.Phil from Oxford University, and a B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.) from NUS. His research focuses on gambling-related cognitive vulnerabilities and emotion regulation. Throughout his clinical training, he has engaged in service development and has administered formal psychological assessments and psychotherapy interventions. He also completed a doctoral thesis on recovery-based outcome measurement for Vietnamese refugees living in the UK. Returning to NUS, he received an early career award and took up a senior tutorship position within the department. Matthew teaches and supervises the Masters clinical psychology programme and has extensive experience working with high-risk adults and children facing severe mental health challenges. His clinical consultancy work incorporates a variety of psychological approaches, including cognitive, systemic, and contemporary meditative practices. His research aims to develop effective interventions addressing specific vulnerabilities related to psychopathology, particularly focusing on the factors that contribute to cognitive and emotional vulnerabilities in adolescents and young adults.
