Dr. Sheng Shen

Biography

Sheng Shen holds the position of Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with courtesy appointments in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on nanophotonics, nanoscale energy transport and conversion, nanofabrication, and advanced manufacturing techniques. His work has implications in thermal management, light sources, thermal emission control, solar thermal energy conversion, and multifunctional materials. Before joining Carnegie Mellon in 2011, he performed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley. Shen has received numerous accolades for his work, including the NSF CAREER Award, DARPA Director’s Fellowship, and various research fellowships. He is committed to advancing the field of engineering and aims to make significant contributions through innovative research initiatives and academic tutoring.
