Biography

Sheraz R. Markar is a Professor of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. He is a consultant oesophago-gastric surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust and serves as the Surgical Specialty Lead for Oesophageal Cancer at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His contributions to the field have been recognized with awards such as the Rising Star award from the United European Gastroenterology in 2019 and the prestigious Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020. He is also the Deputy Chair of the NIHR pre-application support fund panel.
