Dr. Sheridan Miyamoto

Biography

Sheridan Miyamoto is an Associate Professor at the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing and the Child Maltreatment Solutions Network at The Pennsylvania State University. As the Director of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) Center, she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing access to quality forensic services in underserved communities. Her primary research interests focus on utilizing telehealth technology to improve sexual assault forensic care, especially in rural areas. Miyamoto's academic journey includes a PhD in Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership from the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, further emphasizing her commitment to advancing health care practices through innovation. She has received several accolades, including the American Nurses Association Innovation Award and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Miyamoto actively mentors MSN, DNP, and PhD students, guiding them through complex, real-world challenges in forensic nursing and child maltreatment advocacy. Her dedication to service is reflected through her extensive involvement in community outreach and policy-related work, where she aims to influence legislation relevant to sexual assault care and prevention.
