Dr. Sherif Amer

Biography

Sherif Amer is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management at the University of Twente. He holds a Master of Science degree in Human Geography from the University of Utrecht, where he also obtained a Postgraduate diploma in Geo-Information Systems with Urban Applications. His research focuses on the application of geo-information science methods and techniques in spatial planning and health care services. He has conducted doctoral research at the University of Utrecht and has been actively involved in numerous capacity development assignments throughout international developing organizations, particularly in countries such as Indonesia, China, and Malawi. Amer's work emphasizes the socio-spatial analysis of health-seeking patterns, environmental health risk analysis, and the interrelation of socio-economic characteristics with health behavior. He is also known for his leadership in managing externally financed projects and for his role as a co-supervisor of PhD students in geospatial health topics. Amer has contributed to various international journals and is a member of several international networks, including serving as the President of the International Society for Geospatial Health.
