Dr. Sherif Elsharkawy

Biography

Sherif Elsharkawy is an Academic Clinical Lecturer in Prosthodontics at King's College London, where he is part of the Centre for Oral, Clinical, and Translational Sciences. He received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery with honors from Alexandria University, Egypt, and advanced his education with a Master of Science in Oral Biology from Barts London School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating with distinction. He continued his academic journey with a PhD in Bioengineering Materials Science under the supervision of Professor Alvaro Mata at Queen Mary University of London. His clinical and research interests lie in dental implants, tooth wear, and the rehabilitation of prosthodontic oncology patients. Elsharkawy's work is interdisciplinary, with strong funding from the Wellcome Trust and involvement in innovative material science for dental applications. He has published in renowned journals such as Nature Communications and Advanced Healthcare Materials, contributing significantly to the field of regenerative medicine and biomaterials. His research aims to better understand biomineralization processes and develop new bio-inspired materials for dental use. Elsharkawy is also involved in educating the next generation of dental professionals through his role at King's College London, focusing on the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in dental research and practice.
