Biography

Sherif Emil, MD, FACS, FRCS(c), FAAP, was born in Egypt and grew up in several countries, influenced by parents who dedicated their lives to medicine as an orthopedic surgeon and a general practitioner involved in medical mission work. He showed an early interest in medicine, completing a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan before entering medical school at McGill University. His passion for pediatric surgery developed through a clinical elective at Shriners Children's Canada. He pursued surgical training at Loma Linda University in California, where he took time to perform pivotal bench and clinical research in pediatric surgery. After publishing several significant papers in his early career, he returned to McGill in 1999 for pediatric surgery fellowship training, followed by a position at the University of California Irvine. Dr. Emil was then recruited back to lead pediatric surgery at the Montreal Children's Hospital in 2008, where he established a renowned center for chest wall anomaly treatment. His dedication to patient-centered care and clinical education reflects a commitment to improving pediatric surgical outcomes and globalizing medical education.
