Dr. Sherry Velasco

Biography

Sherry Velasco is a Professor at the University of Southern California Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, specializing in Latin American and Iberian cultures, particularly in the context of early modern Spanish literature. Her research primarily focuses on early modern Spanish prose theater and women's narratives during this period. She has authored four significant scholarly works, including 'Lesbians in Early Modern Spain' (Vanderbilt University Press, 2011) and 'Male Delivery: Reproduction, Effeminacy, Pregnant Men in Early Modern Spain' (Vanderbilt University Press, 2006), both of which explore themes of gender and sexuality within historical contexts. She also considers queer theory and visual cultural studies integral to her examination of literature and culture. With a Ph.D. in Early Modern Spanish Literature and Culture from the University of California, Los Angeles, obtained in June 1992, Velasco continues to contribute to academic scholarship in her field.
