Biography

Shervin Farridnejad has been a professor of Iranian Studies at the Asia-Africa Institute of the University of Hamburg since September 2022 and is a member of the Excellence Cluster Understanding Written Artefacts. He studied ancient and middle Iranian philology at the universities of Tehran and Göttingen, where he completed his doctorate in 2014. His dissertation focused on the iconographic exegesis of anthropomorphic deity representations in Zoroastrianism. Before joining Hamburg, he worked as a researcher at various institutions including the Free University of Berlin and the University of Vienna. His academic interests include ancient Iranian culture, Zoroastrian religion, and manuscript studies. He has initiated numerous research projects related to Zoroastrian literature and traditions, merging philological and religious studies approaches.
