Biography

Shervin Shirmohammadi received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada. He is currently a Full Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and serves as the Director of the DISCOVER Laboratory. His research focuses on applied artificial intelligence, measurement methods, multimedia systems, and networks with specific emphasis on video systems, gaming systems, and multimedia-assisted healthcare systems. His work has led to over 400 publications and he has been successful in securing more than $27 million in funding from both public and private sectors. Dr. Shirmohammadi has trained 70 researchers at various levels (postdoctoral, PhD, and Master’s), holds 30 patents related to technology transfer to the private sector, and has received numerous accolades including three paper awards. He has served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Open Journal of Instrumentation and Measurement and has held editorial positions for several prestigious journals. Furthermore, Dr. Shirmohammadi has been recognized as a Fellow of the IEEE for his contributions to multimedia systems and network measurements. He has also been awarded the George S. Glinski Award for Research Excellence and the IEEE IMS Distinguished Service Award, among other honors.
