Dr. Sherylyn Briller

Biography

Sherylyn Briller is a Professor at Purdue University's College of Liberal Arts, specializing in cultural and medical anthropology with a focus on aging, life course, disability, and end-of-life issues in global health. She received her PhD from Case Western Reserve University in 2000 and joined Purdue University in 2014 after serving as a tenured faculty member at Wayne State University. Her research has taken her across Mongolia and the United States, contributing to the anthropological understanding of aging and life transitions. Dr. Briller holds affiliations with the Center for Aging and Life Course Specialization and has been active in promoting anthropological education and career development. A Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology, she has held various leadership roles, including Co-Chair of the Consortium of Applied Practicing Anthropology Programs and President of the Association of Anthropology & Gerontology Education. Dr. Briller has published numerous works, including books and peer-reviewed articles aimed at enhancing the understanding of anthropological practice in health and aging contexts. Her work is supported by multiple grants from organizations like the National Institutes of Health and the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research.
