Biography

Shinjae Chung is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He obtained his B.S. in Life Sciences Biotechnology from Korea University in 2002 and completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Developmental Cell Biology at the University of California, Irvine in 2008. His research expertise focuses on neural circuits, sleep, and emotional brain function. His lab aims to identify the molecular neural mechanisms controlling sleep and to understand the interconnected neural circuits regulating emotional states in health and disease. To achieve these goals, he employs a multi-disciplinary approach involving optogenetics, in vivo electrophysiology, imaging, virus-mediated circuit mapping, and gene profiling.
