Biography

Shiqi Shen focuses on youth development, specifically in the areas of moral and civic identity among young people. Her current project examines the understandings and practices of 'giving back' and reciprocity among Indigenous college students. Shen engages community collaborators in a co-creation process to construct an evolving framework that defines the purpose, assumptions, principles, and approaches to youth development at both individual and community levels. She has a dual BA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, and an MA in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. Prior to her studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she served as a project coordinator and manager, working with nonprofit organizations dedicated to community-led development and educational equity for children and youth. Shen believes in the transformative capabilities of young individuals and has a special interest in rural China, focusing on partnerships that drive social transformation and awareness. She has also worked as a teaching assistant for several courses related to community social change and civil society.
