Biography

Shiqing Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy. His research interests lie in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Antiviral Drug Discovery, and Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery. Dr. Xu's laboratory focuses on developing innovative synthetic methodologies and therapeutic approaches to address critical biological and medical issues. His team explores new strategies, such as non-traditional disconnections and C–H functionalization, which significantly influence the discovery of transformative medicines enabling rapid and efficient synthesis of novel, diverse, and complex biologically active molecules. A central theme of his research includes the development of targeted covalent inhibition and targeted protein degradation techniques that present new opportunities to tackle traditionally undruggable disease targets. Notably, his work includes COVID-19 drug discovery initiatives aimed at small-molecule-induced targeted protein inhibition and degradation, alongside applications of late-stage functionalization in drug discovery.
