Biography

Shira Goldenberg is an Associate Professor at the School of Public Health at San Diego State University (SDSU), where she serves as the Epidemiology Track Director for the Joint Doctoral Program. With a PhD in Public Health focusing on Global Health from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) obtained in 2011, she also holds a Master's degree in Epidemiology from the University of British Columbia, awarded in 2008, and a Bachelor's degree in Ecological Determinants of Health from McGill University, completed in 2004. Her research interests encompass a range of critical public health issues, including HIV/STI prevention, sexual and reproductive healthcare, migrant border health, women's health, and social epidemiology. Shira is particularly focused on the social structural determinants of health, substance use, and community-based research. As Co-Director of the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program, she is dedicated to advancing education and research in public health to better address the health challenges faced by diverse populations.
