Biography

Shireen Daft is a lecturer at Macquarie Law School and serves as the Deputy Director of the Centre of Environmental Law. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Macquarie University and later earned a Master of Laws specializing in Human Rights and Social Justice from the University of New South Wales. In 2015, she was awarded a PhD from Macquarie University for her dissertation titled ‘The Relationship Between Human Security Discourse and International Law: A Principled Approach’, which investigates how the human security discourse challenges traditional public international law frameworks. Daft teaches various subjects including international law and criminal justice, and her research interests encompass international law concerning non-state actors, human security, children in armed conflict, and environmental justice. She is particularly focused on the intersection of international humanitarian law, human rights law, and criminal justice as they relate to the international community's response to child soldiers and children affected by armed conflict.
