Dr. Shirin Ahlbäck Öberg

Biography

Shirin Ahlbäck Öberg obtained her PhD in Political Science in 1999 and was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2007. Her academic journey includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the Skytte Foundation and a position as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Government, Uppsala University from 2001 to 2006. In 2007, she became a Senior Lecturer and later a Professor in Political Science. Ahlbäck Öberg's research interests encompass auditing and monitoring in the public sector, particularly in relation to the emergence of audit society and the challenges of new public management reforms on the professionalism within the sector. Her work often deals with parliamentary representation and explores the impact of national parliamentary actions on EU policy. Ahlbäck Öberg has supervised six doctoral students throughout her career and has held numerous roles within Uppsala University, including Deputy Director of the Higher Education Research Objects Study (HERO) and Deputy Member on the university board. Additionally, she has contributed to various governmental inquiries related to public management and has been an active voice in academic media, regularly publishing opinion pieces and participating in podcasts on education and democratic issues.
