Biography

Shirish Gupta is an award-winning mediator and arbitrator at JAMS. He mediates a diverse array of cases, including employment, intellectual property, commercial, professional liability, health care, class actions, and insurance disputes. Gupta is known for his legal acumen and economic prowess, making him particularly adept at managing complex financial and technical disputes involving patents, securities, and accounting. He has successfully settled numerous cases involving Silicon Valley startups and Fortune 500 companies. In 2014, a survey conducted by Recorder named Gupta as an Independent Mediator in the Bay Area. His mediation skills were further recognized in 2013 when he was recruited to mediate insurance coverage claims related to Superstorm Sandy in New York. At his peak, he was mediating up to four claims a day. Gupta has served as Co-Chair of the California State Bar Council Sections and as chair of the State Bar Solo and Small Firm Section Executive Committee. He is a published authority on mediation and negotiation, with articles featured in the Daily Journal, Recorder, and local bar associations. Gupta has taught at UC Berkeley, UC Hastings, and Santa Clara Law School, and was recognized by UC Hastings’ Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution for his teaching skills in 2021. He holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A. from UC Berkeley, where he majored in Economics and Legal Studies with a minor in South Asian Studies. Additionally, he volunteers as a youth soccer referee and coach.
