Biography

Shiva Mohajernia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. He completed his Ph.D. in Material Science Engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, in 2020. Prior to his current position, he led a catalysis group at the Chemistry & Structure of Novel Materials Institute in Germany. Mohajernia has also been a visiting scholar in the Nanomaterial Catalysts Sustainable Energy Technologies research group at McMaster University, Canada. His academic background includes Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Tehran and Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in Iran, respectively. He has received several awards including the 2022 Catalysts Award and the 2020 International Society of Electrochemistry Award. His research focuses on energy materials, particularly in developing novel materials for photocatalytic and electrocatalytic energy conversion applications. Current research topics include the design and fabrication of single-atom decorated materials and defect engineering in semiconductors for energy-related applications, as well as the production of value-added chemicals through electrocatalysis and photocatalytic hydrogen generation.
