Biography

Shivaram Venkataraman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research interests include designing systems for algorithms, large-scale data analysis, and machine learning. Venkataraman's dissertation research focused on abstractions that make it easier to express new machine learning algorithms and systems aimed at improving performance. He has held a postdoctoral researcher position at Microsoft Research in Redmond, working within the Systems Research Group. Previously, he completed his PhD at UC Berkeley under the guidance of Ion Stoica and Mike Franklin. Additionally, he earned his Master's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he worked with Professor Roy Campbell. Venkataraman teaches various courses, including CS 537 (Introduction to Operating Systems), CS 744 (Big Data Systems), and CS 839 (Advanced Machine Learning Systems).
