Biography

Shixiang (Woody) Zhu is an Assistant Professor at the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in Machine Learning from the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Zhu's research is focused broadly on Machine Learning and Data Science, with particular interest in developing models for spatio-temporal data and dynamic networks under uncertainty. His work aims to develop new methodologies for social good, addressing high-impact problems in areas such as police operations, power systems, transportation, and healthcare epidemiology. His research on police zone districting was recognized as a finalist for the 2021 INFORMS Wagner Prize, and he won second place in the 2019 INFORMS Good Good competition.
