Biography

Dr. Shiyang Tang is an Associate Professor at the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton, UK. He received a BEng with first-class honors in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), Australia, in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He conducted postdoctoral research in bio-microfluidics at Pennsylvania State University and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Before joining the University of Southampton, he was a lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham, UK. Dr. Tang has received the Future Fellowship and Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council. He has published around 110 papers in high-impact journals, such as PNAS, Nature Communications, and Science Advances, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals. His research interests focus on the development of soft intelligent systems for biomedical applications, exploring interdisciplinary problems involving microfluidics, smart materials, electromechanical systems, and machine learning.
