Dr. Shoaib Afzal

Biography

Shoaib Afzal is a Clinical Professor in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. His primary research interests encompass epidemiology, particularly focusing on major non-communicable diseases and mortality within the general population. His special focus lies in cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease, utilizing high-quality data settings that span general population cohorts, including the Copenhagen General Population Study and nationwide registry studies. He applies advanced epidemiological methods and causal inference approaches in his research. His fields of interest also include clinical epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, vitamin D, obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disease, and obesity, with a significant emphasis on using metabolomics to predict cardiovascular diseases. In addition to his research duties, he has extensive teaching experience, providing anatomy and clinical biochemistry lectures to medical students and engaging in post-graduate courses in research training for medical doctors.
