Shohini Kundu’s research focuses on financial intermediation, regulation, corporate finance, and macroeconomics. Her work aims to investigate the origins of financial fragility and the direct and indirect effects of asset prices and corporate decisions on the macroeconomy. Kundu has a particular interest in covenants and the mechanisms by which idiosyncratic shocks amplify negative externalities on firms' portfolios. She has examined the real costs of fire sales, their contribution to credit crunches, and how firms respond with financial adjustments. Her findings reveal that, contrary to traditional views, collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) can lead to riskier firms fire-selling loans for contractual arbitrage, exploiting loopholes in covenant designs. Kundu joined the faculty of UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2021 as an Assistant Professor of Finance.
