Shokrollah Elahi is a cellular and molecular immunologist whose work encompasses viral pathogenesis and immune regulation during immune system development. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying immune dysregulation to generate protective therapeutic approaches. Dr. Elahi's lab is particularly interested in CD8 T cells that become exhausted in the context of chronic viral infections, such as HIV, and cancer. Throughout his career, he has investigated the underlying mechanisms that contribute to susceptibility to infectious diseases, particularly in neonates. He has a background in HIV/AIDS pathogenesis and has held postdoctoral fellowships at the Vaccine Infectious Disease Organization and at the Center for Infectious Diseases Research associated with the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Elahi's lab continues to work to coax the immune system to fight back against tumor cells, focusing on various cancers including both viral-associated and non-viral-associated solid tumors, as well as hematological malignancies.
