Biography

Shona Macleod is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at King's College London, working on the CLARITY-Africa project, which is led by Professor Frans Berkhout. This Wellcome Trust-funded initiative involves a consortium that includes Imperial College London, the University of Ghana, and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Rwanda, focusing on co-producing knowledge about the health impacts of climate change and forming adaptations within the contexts of schools and outdoor work in Ghana and Rwanda. Shona holds a PhD in International Development from SOAS, University of London, and prior to joining the Department of Geography at King's, she was a Rights Lab Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham. Her research explores government and NGO responses to practices involving begging boys at traditional Qur'anic schools in West Africa, drawing on her extensive experience working with NGOs in Senegal and the UK. She has also taught in the Department of International Development at King's. Her publications focus on the health rights of children in street situations and the socio-economic challenges faced by vulnerable youth.
