Dr. Shonali Banerjee

Biography

Shonali joined the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) at the University of Warwick in 2023, serving as the department's Deputy Director for External Affairs. She specializes in international development with a focus on the private sector's involvement, philanthropy, and foreign aid. Previously, she was a Senior Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Strategic Philanthropy, where she led research on the implications of new financial instruments in philanthropy. Her career began as a development practitioner, where she worked with various international organizations across the United States, Africa, and Southeast Asia in program management, impact measurement, and strategic communications. Shonali's research interests include financialization in development, the role of new media technologies, and the dynamics of global philanthropy. She has published numerous articles and reports on these topics and has served as an advisor to prominent international organizations such as the OECD Development Centre and the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network. She holds a PhD in International Development from the University of Sussex and is open to supervising undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in her areas of expertise.
