Biography

Shoufeng Lan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University, with affiliations in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, awarded in 2017. He completed his M.S. in the same field at the University of New Mexico in 2012 and earned a Master of Engineering in Precision Instrument Optoelectronics Engineering from Tianjin University in 2009. His research interests span several interdisciplinary fields, including mechanics with a focus on light-assisted control, sensing, and manufacturing; materials such as plasmonics, metamaterials, and 2D materials; and physics investigating nonlinear, quantum, and topological photonics. Additionally, he explores photon-induced chemical, medical, and biological synthesis. Lan’s contributions to education and research have been recognized with numerous awards, including the James J. Cain '51 Faculty Graduate Teaching Award in 2024 and the NCFDD Faculty Success Fellow designation in 2023.
