Biography

Shrayesh Patel is an Associate Professor in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago. He completed his undergraduate degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007 and obtained his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. Prior to joining the University of Chicago, Patel worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Materials Research Laboratory at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His academic interests lie in the study of functional polymers and their application in advanced materials science, particularly in energy conversion and storage technologies such as batteries and thermoelectrics. His research group leverages synchrotron X-ray scattering and spectroscopy techniques to understand the molecular, nano-, and micro-scale properties of functional polymers. Patel has been recognized with several honors, including the 2023 PMSE Early Stage Investigator award and the 2022 Rising Stars in Polymers award from the American Chemical Society.
