Biography

Shree K. Nayar is the T.C. Chang Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University, where he heads the Columbia Vision Laboratory (CAVE). His research focuses on the creation of novel cameras that provide new forms of visual information, the design of physics-based models for vision and graphics, and the development of algorithms for understanding scenes and images. Nayar's work is motivated by applications in imaging, computer vision, robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality, visual communication, computer graphics, and human-computer interfaces. He received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Throughout his career, he has received numerous prestigious awards including the David Marr Prize, the National Young Investigator Award, and he has been recognized as a fellow by several academies including the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
