Dr. Shrikanth Narayanan

Biography

Shrikanth (Shri) Narayanan is a University Professor and holder of the Niki Max Nikias Chair in Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He serves as the inaugural Vice President for Presidential Initiatives on the Senior Leadership Team of USC's President. With a professional career that includes joint appointments in the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Linguistics, Psychology, and Pediatrics, he is deeply engaged in signal image processing and human-centered research. Shri has been recognized as a Fellow of multiple professional organizations, including the National Academy of Inventors and IEEE. His research focuses on human-centered sensing and processing, emphasizing applications in speech and language. He has published over 1000 papers and holds 19 patents, with a particular focus on integrating AI into conversational systems. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field, including the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech Audio Processing Award and the ACM ICMI Sustained Accomplishment Award. Shri co-founded startups aimed at advancing conversational AI and mental health care delivery. He also plays a leadership role in various professional societies, organizing conferences and contributing to editorial boards.
