Shruti Chaudhry is a Chancellor's Fellow in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. Her research primarily focuses on the sociology of family relationships, kinship, and gender inequalities. She completed her PhD in sociology at the University of Edinburgh in 2016, where she conducted a comparative ethnographic study of women migrating for marriage in rural north India. This work integrated critiques of marriage across global contexts and provided insights into the gendering of intimacy within arranged marriage settings. Shruti has also worked on a project examining gender (labour) migration in India, emphasizing women's rights from a feminist perspective. She is currently leading post-doctoral research on the experiences of South-Asian heritage older adults (aged 50 and above) in Scotland, particularly in relation to intimate life and care. Her recent writings investigate cross-category friendships, including cross-gender and cross-cultural friendships, and she is co-editing a special issue on friendship in global contexts. Shruti is instrumental in developing research that crosses boundaries of social change for racially minoritised young adults in Scotland, especially focusing on marriage within Indian contexts.
