Dr. Shruti Johansson

Biography

Shruti Taneja Johansson is an associate professor at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in education and special education. She holds a PhD in Education, with a focus on psychological interdisciplinary fields and childhood studies. Before joining the university, she gained significant experience in various educational settings across England, Sweden, and India, working with children and young people with developmental disabilities. Shruti serves as a scientific leader and chair of the advisory board for Special Educator and Special Teacher programs, and she also contributes to the Master’s Education program. Her research interests center around disability, educational inclusion, and the mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion within educational environments. She explores how disabilities intersect with various forms of disadvantage, impacting educational outcomes and life trajectories. Shruti's recent research projects include video-based studies aimed at improving teaching practices for students with intellectual disabilities, as well as co-creating inclusive educational pathways for disabled university students. She teaches primarily in special and inclusive education, utilizing her expertise in qualitative research methods to supervise students at undergraduate and doctoral levels, and she has developed several university courses focused on cognitive developmental disabilities and health promotion in schools.
