Shu Yang is a Senior Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University. He leads a neuropathology and cell biology team as part of a major motor neuron disease (MND) gene discovery program at the Centre for MND Research. Dr. Yang obtained his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology from the University of Queensland and completed his postdoctoral training at the ANZAC Research Institute, University of Sydney, under the supervision of Prof. Ian Blair. His research focuses on gene mutations that cause MND and their roles in basic biology of the disease. Dr. Yang's team has significant experience in identifying functional and pathological changes associated with novel and known MND-linked genes, including TARDBP, OPTN, and C9orf72. His program plays a critical role in validating causal MND genes through pathological cell biology strategies. He teaches a course on Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience and guest lectures on Translational Biology and Genomics, which are part of the Bachelor of Clinical Science program.
