Biography

Steve Xu, MD, MSc, is an assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering. He received his undergraduate degree in bioengineering from Rice University, graduating summa cum laude. Following this, he completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School with special honors as a Soros Fellow, then earned a Master's degree in Health Policy and Finance from the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar. Dr. Xu further advanced his expertise through a NIH-funded T32 post-doctoral fellowship at Northwestern’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering under Professor John Rogers. He has authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications and is a listed inventor on 13 patents, developing medical device technologies across various fields including dermatology, orthopedics, and cardiology. His interests also extend to FDA regulation and policy development to stimulate innovation in healthcare. Dr. Xu has garnered significant attention for his work in media outlets such as Forbes, CNN, and the Washington Post. He is also the founding chair of the educational initiatives at Advancing Innovation in Dermatology, a not-for-profit organization that promotes product innovation within the field.
