Shuangtao Ma, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, serving since 2017. He is dedicated to advancing translational cardiovascular research and medical education. Dr. Ma’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases, with particular emphasis on transient receptor potential (TRP) channels, hypertension, vascular remodeling, heart failure, and arrhythmias. His early studies elucidated the role of TRPV1 in vascular biology related to hypertension and examined the impact of TRPM8 on metabolism and obesity, providing novel insights into therapeutic strategies. Currently, as the Principal Investigator of an American Heart Association-funded study, he leads a research team exploring the role of TRPA1 in cardiac aging and arrhythmogenesis, developing innovative treatments for age-related cardiovascular conditions. Dr. Ma has authored 75 peer-reviewed research articles, reviews, and invited editorials. As a physician-scientist with extensive clinical experience in cardiology, he bridges clinical insight with basic and translational research to advance the field of cardiovascular medicine. He is also a passionate educator, serving as a preceptor for case-based learning modules covering cardiovascular and renal systems, and actively mentoring medical students and postdoctoral fellows, leading to multiple co-authored publications and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment that integrates scientific discovery with clinical relevance.
